The renaissance was when art became more focused on representing more real looking art. One artist was Leonardo DaVinci as he was well known for his scientific drawings. To achieve this kind of photography, cameras were developed to capture these photos. One camera developed was the camera obscura. This involved a dark space where an inverted image was projected onto a surface. |
The next camera type developed was the daguerreotype. It was type of photograph that was reversed then printed on a metal plate. The daguerreotype required a long exposure so any movement in the photos would result in a blurred image. It was also only one image and it was very delicate so the mirror surface could be easily scratched. |
The next camera type to be invented was at the same time as the daguerreotype thus creating competition, it was called the calotype. The advantage the calotype had over the daguerreotype was the fact it was reproducible, it could create a negative copy. This was the first calotype produced, the lattice window. |
